The Day That Didn't Get Documented
Part of the fun of being a postulant is becoming the "poster-child" for the vocation ministry. In recent years they literally made a new poster...but in my case I was just asked to document a day in my life. I was going to do it yesterday; here's how the day went....
5:30...Alarm goes off
5:31...ignore alarm because this house doesn't do community prayer on Wed.mornings
5:50ish...sortof think I hear the radio say something about schools being closed
5:51ish...convince myself that everything's closed so my site will be too.
5:51 & 30seconds...back asleep
9:45...wake-up & realize I don't actually know if we're closed, get dressed, think of plan
9:50...check internet for school closings; try to remember if we go by city or county
9:52...see that county is closed and city is open so decide to go with county.
10:00...eat breakfast
10:30...receive a call from one of the sisters at work
10:31...attempt to mumble an embarrassed excuse about thinking we were closed today.
10:35...drive to work
10:45...apologize to my boss
11:00...begin seeing clients; make referrals, counsel, write case notes, file
1:30...receive call from former co-worker cancelling our 3:30 mtg.
2:00...leave work and drop off a disabled co-worker at her home
2:05...go to Starbucks; enjoy a "Skinny Vanilla Latte" & study Bible trivia cards**
3:00...drive to former workplace anyway & visit w/the sisters before my Board mtg.
4:58...check email & learn that host for mtg can't host & we are all calling in
5:00...remember that THIS house doesn't have community prayer on Wednesday PM
5:30...have dinner with the sisters and talk with the other Postulant
7:00...say "goodbye" and get in car
7:01...brainstorm possible ways of getting on conference call without a phone
7:02...begin driving aimlessly
7:03...imagine myself pulling up to any number of friends' or family members' homes saying, "hi, can I come in and use your phone immediately and for the next two hours and then leave without visiting with you at all?"
7:28...remember there is a shopping mall nearby
7:40...check mall hours and locate a payphone
7:45...dial into the conference call [thankfully a toll-free #]
7:46...lean against the wall and strain to hear over the roar of the smoothie machine
8:00...switch positions and lean on other side
8:30...switch sides again
9:00...stretch back and switch again
9:18...hang-up from call
9:22...remember I have $5 left in my monthly budget and blow it on a piece of food-court pizza
9:29...drive home
10:08...park in front of church; say "good evening" to prostitutes on the corner
10:09...wait for rat to move out of the doorway
10:10...go inside and get ready for bed
**this is in no way required; it's just a geeky thing I do
You won't see this day in the vocation brochure...but it's posted here for your viewing pleasure.

Aww I miss you, Salvatrice. It reminds me of college. :)
You are hilarious. They should use that because it's reality!!!! Can't wait to see you.
They wouldn't want to put the 5:30 thing on the poster though... that would scare away too many would-be nuns. Oh, wait -- nevermind. It didn't keep you away! :)
Thanks for sharing. Very interesing.
Oh, Salvatrice, I´m glad that your title has changed but you haven´t! Miss you!
